Already Kirkcaldy Art Club is half way through the first term. Members enjoyed a Mishima and Scraffito workshop on Sunday 13th October with Irene Coulthard whose passion and enthusiasm for this technique shone through. Irene guided us through the stages demonstrating and explaining each step from tracing the design onto the prepared clay, to incising, adding the underglaze and cleaning it up afterwards. Attendees gained valuable insight into the importance of ensuring the steps are carried out at the correct time as dryness levels are key. The workshop was attended by pottery class, painting class and printing class members who all produced exciting and unique work and are all looking forward to when the pieces are glazed.
Later this week, on Sunday 20th October, Heather Gilbert, one of our pottery tutors, will demonstrate how to use the art club's own glazes. This will take place in the pottery, 10.30 am - 12.30 pm.
Then, also on Sunday 20th October, but 1-4pm in the painting studio, St Andrews based artist, will lead a workshop in using oils - 'Painting Water - rivers or seas'.
The following Sunday, 27th October, 2-4pm again in the painting studio Avril Cunningham, a Tayside artist, will demonstrate how to use materials to provide different textures when using acrylic paints, 'Having fun with Gels and Pastes'.
Our final art workshop of 2019 will take place on Sunday 10th November, 1-4 pm, when Pat Bray, a local Fife artist, will return to Kirkcaldy Art Club to lead a workshop in 'Life Drawing'. This is always a very popular class.
Meanwhile members of the Wednesday morning Craft Group are working hard towards our Christmas Art and Craft Fair later in November. Once again a busy time at the art club.
