More info about the class
Felting is a traditional craft that uses wool fibres to create a strong dense fabric without the need for weaving or knitting. Sheep’s fleece is especially suitable for felting because the fibres have tiny scales that naturally lock together when exposed to moisture heat and movement. When making a rug, raw fleece is cleaned and gently opened up so the fibres are loose and workable. The wool is then layered and worked together until fibres bind, gradually forming a thick durable rug. By felting a sheep’s fleece into a rug, a natural material can be turned into a practical and long lasting textile, combing traditional techniques with simple, hands - on craftsmanship.
