Wonderful art created in the garden at Glassmount House
Last Saturday, 2nd June, Irene Thomson led her second Summer school class, 'Painting in the Garden at Glassmount House'. The weather was wonderful, warm and sunny, and this just added to an already perfect setting for the day. Irene and her artists were met by the owners who welcomed them with tea in the famous Mackenzie and Moncur Glasshouse. Next people explored the garden to find where they might want to draw / paint. Anyone interested in flowers and plants would love the variety and relaxed mood of the informal setting. There were plenty of quirky items located within the twisting pathways which drew the eye to view some other unusual area, a bit like being in a secret 'fairy like' garden. The group were all immediately inspired to draw, some with watercolour pencils, and others to paint with acrylics or watercolour. 'Colour' was the most obvious influence, given the range of flowers and plants in full bloom, and they all quickly got to work. Irene, over the afternoon, worked her way round the group supporting everyone, with compliments and advice. The whole experience of being at Glassmount, with its glass buildings, duck pond, famous sun dial, wood piles and views over the Forth to Edinburgh and East Lothian was a great success. Everyone enjoyed the day so much and will have lots of material to use in more paintings at a later time, and will have many memories of this lovely day . Thank you to Heather and Irene for their comments about the day, and to the owners for welcoming our group to their beautiful garden, which participates in the Scotland's Gardens Scheme. Our final Summer school takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday, 12th and 13th June, 10 am - 3 pm, 'Art at the Harbour'. This will be led by local artist, Bill Bruce. Participants will have plenty choice of areas to draw/ paint - The Harbourmaster's House, St Serf's Tower, Pan Ha' houses, boats and the harbour itself. Details of this class can be found on the art club's website www.kirkcaldyartclub.co.uk and on our Facebook page. People walking through the Mercat Centre, Kirkcaldy between 11th and 17th June might see some of our members and their paintings in the Community Space, in a shared exhibition. Come in and say hello !
